An advance delegation recently visited Unalaska to review infrastructure in consideration of a permanent US Military Presence. Delegates were hosted with a tour including a presentation on the Makushin Geothermal Power project.
"FxSP personnel conducted both walking and aerial reconnaissance of the project site including a helicopter flight into the volcano’s caldera and inspected the resource confirmation well Makushin ST-1 which was advanced to a depth of 1,949 feet below existing ground surface on the lower slopes of Makushin Volcano. Additionally, FxSP SMEs reviewed construction plans and paid particular attention to earthwork and grading relating to roads, structures, and equipment and material unloading and storage areas. Construction in the sensitive environment of the Aleutian Islands is a major concern to all parties. "
